Marble Maze

This idea came from Teach Preschool . We cut up an old cake box, and used sticky tape to stick the straws down. I initially started with just an arrow at the start and finish, but Mr 4 needed a bit more of a challenge, and so together we put numbered dots in 6 different corners. This time he had to try and roll the marble to each number in the right order. This made it very appealing to him, so much so, he took it for show and tell to school.

Meanwhile Miss 2 enjoyed cutting the straws into millions of small pieces.

Sewing Cards

I was inspired by these gorgeous sewing cards on Minieco. I used the cardboard from the back of old Christmas cards. I first made the monkey, to give the kids the idea, and then let them loose. They had a blast. In fact, they enjoyed drawing the pictures cutting them out and punching the holes every bit as much as the actual threading.

Button Shirts

I bought a bag of mixed buttons to do the tree shirt that Becced pointed out on Pinterest. I cut the tree shape from some old pants, did zigzag sewing around the edges (after first using straight stitch to hold it in place), and then sewed on as many buttons as I could before school pick up time. Kids are fascinated with the buttons on this one.

Seeing as I still had the rest of the bag of buttons and another plain t-shirt, I decided to do a fish. I sketched fish shapes on plain paper until I was happy with it, then used it as a template to cut out the fabric. Again I straight stitched and then zigzag stitched the fish in place. Finally I sewed on some blue buttons for bubbles, and one for an eye.

Super Hero Armbands

A nice little craft activity to do with the kids. Take a cardboard roll. Cut it lengthways, and then cut it in half around the middle. Cover it in some bright coloured paper, and let the kids loose with some stickers.

Best for fine days when the kids can use their new-found super powers outdoors.
